More Bad Translations

Sunday, August 30th, 2015

There’s another badly translated strip to see today when you vote for Station V3 at TopWebcomics!

On a related note, I recently found a Dave Clark Five album that was released in Taiwan in 1968:

Not sure how “official” this release was – it has songs from their US albums 5 By 5, You Got What It Takes, and Everybody Knows, with the cover from You Got What It Takes. It was released on “Large World” records (which uses the logo from Liberty Records), which (from what I’ve read) released records for American and Australian servicemen stationed in Taiwan at the time.

What makes it related to the bad translation bonus strip I just posted is that the lyrics on the back cover look like they’ve been through a similar process:

In case you’re unfamiliar with the song, the song really starts with “Two little villages on their own, each lord taking care of his own.” And the word “pharmacy” does not actually appear in the song. Oh well, at least the orange vinyl looks nice! :)

The things you find on your hard drive…

I was going through some of the files in the Station V3 folder on my hard drive, and found a photo of Ebb with the Space: 1999 soundtrack album. I remember mentioning finding the album (apparently in August 2004), but I don’t think I ever put the picture up anywhere!

It’s a little late, but here it is now:

(And it’s a great album, in case anyone was wondering! The music was one of the best things about the show.)

Music to Breakaway by

I had a nice surprise when looking through a box of records at a flea market yesterday… I found a Space: 1999 soundtrack album, with the first season theme and music from some of the first season episodes. There’s a lot that can be (and has been) said about a show where a nuclear waste explosion throws the Moon out of orbit, and clear out of the solar system so it encounters a new system and possibly inhabitable planet (though of course they can’t move there) nearly every week… but the music is good! (And I like the show, even though – or maybe because – a lot of the episodes don’t make a whole lot of sense.)

On a Station V3-related note, the voting incentives up today at buzzComix and TopWebcomics are early sketches of a character that may be appearing in the comic in the near future!
